About the Project

Grotto Park

Adjacent to the Veterans home is what was historically called Grotto Park. In years when the rail road stopped at the facility, the park was a place filled with activity. The waterfall dropped into the park from the ponds above, the winding creek was lined and had two arched bridges crossing it, and there was a band stand and gazebos for entertainment and relaxation. No improvements have been made to the park since those days.

Current Condition

Currently the park is closed to the residents of the Veterans Home due to safety concerns. The concrete lining the creek is crumbling and falling into the water, the bridges are deteriorating and not safe to use and there is no handicap accessible way to get down into the park.

The Future

The Comstock Park Rotary Club has a grand vision for the park. We see the park as a place for veterans to visit with family and a place to sit quietly when they want to escape. Our vision includes new facilities and beautiful landscaping. Access to the park will be made comfortable for the handicap residents of the facility.
